Corr blimey! Sharon set for solo show

Sharon Corr set for solo show

Singing violinist leaves siblings behind to star in solo tour.

Sharon Corr is to play Aberdeen’s Lemon Tree Lounge in August as part of her first solo tour after 15 years on the road with her siblings.

It has been five years since The Corrs announced that they were taking a break from music to concentrate on their growing families.

Sharon’s first solo album, Dream of You – a collection of melodic pop gems – is out on September 10.

Sharon said: “It was important for me to keep the Irish influence and the violin because that’s what I’m known for but I wanted to explore the violin in a wider context.”

As violinist, songwriter and backing vocalist with The Corrs, Sharon enjoyed enormous success in the 90s, with 30 million album sales, sell-out worldwide stadium tours and a string of No1 single and albums under the band’s belts.

She said of The Corrs’ decision to take a break: “We all needed to find our own identities and our own lives, and to have marriages and children and that sort of thing.”

Now a mother-of-two, music has summoned Sharon back. She added: “Music is what makes me tick and when I’m not doing it, I don’t feel good about myself.”

Tickets for the gig, which is taking place on Friday, August 19, go on sale tomorrow online at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com, by phone at (01224) 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall, His Majesty’s Theatre and The Lemon Tree.
