Donald Trump's organisation has promised to fight a proposed windfarm "on every possible front".

The £150m offshore development would be situated off Aberdeen Bay, and would see 11 turbines providing the area with renewable energy.

The project is a joint venture by utility company Vattenfall, engineering firm Technip and Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group.

US tycoon Mr Trump, who is building a controversial £750m golf and housing development on the Menie Estate near Aberdeen on the North Sea coast, has previously objected to the development – much as many residents of the area objected to his.

In a statement the Trump organisation said: "Our position has not changed from five years ago.

"We are opposed to the siting of this wind farm and will fight the proposal on every possible front."

The application seeks permission for work to start on the construction and operation of the centre.

UK manager of Vattenfall David Hodkinson said: "Our consent application was submitted on August 1 and will now be subject to the formal consultation and decision process.

"We believe we have made a good case for the development, which places Aberdeen at the heart of the development of new technologies to serve the growing European offshore wind sector.

"We would build the project with the same attention to detail in respect of environmental and community considerations as we have for our previous developments".

Senior vice president of Technip Offshore Wind Ron Cookson said this is an important milestone for the EOWDC.

He said: "It is our belief that this project could, with considerable EU support, be the catalyst which kick-starts the region's rapid emergence as an industry-leading player in marine renewables."

Dates will be released shortly for a series of consultation events which will allow the public to view the detailed Environmental Impact Assessment.
