North-east artisan beer company Brewdog have announced the top five finalists in their MixDog competition – with Shetland Isles Great British Bake Off Finalist James Morton in one of the top spots.
The five cocktails were created after the company called out to Brewdog fans to get creative with their various craft beers and come up with a concoction that will have customers hopping with delight.
Beer fans turned to their cocktail shakers and discovered their inner mixologist with the results displaying far more innovation that your standard lager tops.
James’ cocktail, nicknamed the Hardcore Sour, is a blend of New Hardcore Brewdog beer and notes of orange, lime and pink grapefruit, with a twist of vermouth to give a nod to the traditional classic.
The Great British Bake Off contestant, whose skills in breadmaking and impressive flavour combinations made him a household name, managed to reach the final of the cult baking series.
Although he didn’t take the top prize, his knowledge of a well-mixed cocktail may well secure him the top Brewdog gong .
This morning he tweeted his delight at making the top five – hinting this accolade may be as good, if not better, than rising to the top of the baking show.

Other cocktails that made the grade include a take on a classic margarita with a kick of chilli, a pumpkin spiked drink named after Alice in Wonderland and the Bloody Mary-styled Wet Nose.
The five finalists, including James, will now be invited to the Camden Brewdog bar, to create their cocktails again – with Camden customers having the final say in who is top of the hops.
The winner will then have their cocktail rolled out across Brewdog bars nationwide.
