The Airdrie and Shotts MSP urges young Scots to get involved and help shape their local community
Are you aged 14-25? Would like to be a voice for the young people of Airdrie? Why not?
The closing date for nominations to the Scottish Youth Parliament is almost upon us, so now is the time to make a stand for your community.
The Scottish Youth Parliament provides a platform for young people to contribute to national debates, putting forward their unique viewpoint on issues that directly affect them and current affairs that are not "youth issues".
I was elected as a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) in 2007, completing a two-year term during which I represented my peers at a national level.
During that time I was lucky enough to be elected as External Affairs Convenor and sat on the Board of the SYP as a result.
I was also a proud member of the local youth forum which puts young people's ideas and concerns to North Lanarkshire Council and other local stakeholder such as Strathclyde Police.
So what are you waiting for? The Scottish Youth Parliament is a welcoming organisation where everyone wants to help each other to do their best for their constituency.
These opportunities are open to you now, and you can learn so much from the experience – I certainly did.
So what are you waiting for? Apply today and help represent your peers and your local community.
The closing date for nominations is Friday, 16, February
