The man who murdered missing Suzanne Pilley before dumping her body in rural woodland has been beaten up in jail.
It has been reported David Gilroy was left with a broken jaw after the attack at Shotts prison in Lanarkshire.
The 49-year-old was originally at Saughton prison in Edinburgh but was moved to the other jail earlier this month.
A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service said: "We cannot comment on individual prisoners. However we can confirm that an incident occurred at Shotts and a prisoner was taken to hospital for a check-up."
Gilroy was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 18 years for the murder of Ms Pilley.
The bookkeeper disappeared on her way to work in Edinburgh city centre on May 2, 2010. She was captured on CCTV making her way to her office on Thistle Street but never arrived at her desk.
Gilroy was convicted of luring the 38-year-old into the basement of Infrastructure Management Limited before murdering her "by means unknown". He buried her body someone in rural Argyll but it has never been found.
