Chef Tony Singh's restaurant in Edinburgh set to close its doors

Chef Tony Singh’s restaurant in the capital is set to close in the next few weeks.

Oloroso opened on a rooftop position in Edinburgh’s George Street in December 2001.

On Wednesday, the chef announced the economic climate was forcing him to shut the venue. A consultation period is under way with staff before a date for the closure is set.

He also said it would "not be business as usual" and customers should contact the restaurant to make sure there is availability before the arrive.

Anyone with gift vouchers will be given a refund.

Tony Singh said: "I’m extremely proud of what we have achieved at Oloroso over the last ten years. Running my own restaurant has been an unforgettable experience; however the current economic climate is incredibly challenging and in all honesty it has made me question my future, as well as the future of my staff and suppliers. Today marks the commencement of a consultation period with the staff during which my proposal to close the restaurant will be discussed in-house.

"The proposal comes at a time where I feel that it makes sense to take a step back from the industry during these difficult times and re-group. Although I’ve got some exciting projects in the pipeline, right now my priority is to spend some time with my family, who have stood by me throughout the long days and nights.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who’s been involved in the success of Oloroso over the past ten years – family, staff, suppliers and customers. It’s down to their support that I’ve been able to achieve my lifelong ambition, so thank you."
