A man is in a critical condition following a road smash in Midlothian.
The 43 year old suffered serious injuries in the collision on Wednesday morning.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened on the A702 Edinburgh to Biggar road, at its junction with Mauricewood Road near Penicuik.
A maroon Ford Escort, which was being driven by the injured man, was involved in a collision with a blue Landrover Freelander at around 6.10am.
The other driver was not injured, but the 43 year old was immediately taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he remains in a critical condition.
A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw the vehicles involved prior to the incident, to contact police as soon as possible.”
