Two women have died and a third has been seriously injured after a car lost control on a country road.
The accident happened just before 6pm last night on the B6369 between Haddington and Gifford in East Lothian.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but despite their efforts the two women died.
The other occupant of the Vauxhall Corsa suffered serious injuries to her chest and legs.
She was treated by paramedics at the scene and a trauma team from Edinburgh Royal Infirmary before being taken to hospital.
It is thought heavy rain had led to poor driving conditions at the time.
Lothian and Borders Police appealed for witnesses.
