A cash boost is expected for researchers seeking a cure for the so-called Butterfly Children.

A fundraiser is being held in Edinburgh on Tuesday night for the charity dedicated to the genetic skin blistering condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).

The rare condition affects children and adults and leaves the sufferer with extremely fragile skin that can blister at the slightest touch.

First Minister Alex Salmond will attend the event at Edinburgh Castle that will raise funds for DebRA – the national charity dedicated to people affected by EB.

All money raised will go towards the major research project to find a cure for the condition currently under way at Dundee University.

Also due to attend the event will be Andrew Grist - a Squadron Leader at RAF Kinloss – and his wife.

Andrew's 13 month old daughter Isla suffers from one of worst levels of EB and as a result he has become very proactive in fundraising.
