Police and customs officers have seized counterfeit cigarettes and tobacco worth £20,000 during a raid in Edinburgh.
Officers recovered 10,000 illegal cigarettes from a van in the city after receiving a tip-off that a man was storing the illegal goods. They then raided a property in the Brunswick Road area of Leith, where they found a further 52,000 cigarettes and 35kg of tobacco.
The evaded duty that should have been paid on the goods would have amounted to around £14,000.
A 51-year-old man has now been cautioned, however, there were no arrests and the enquiry is continuing.
Chief Inspector Denise Mulvaney, from Lothian and Borders Police, said: "This joint operation was a fantastic example of the great results effective partnership working can produce.
"The sale of counterfeit goods is a crime we take very seriously, and we will always deal robustly with anyone caught participating in this sort of activity."
Anyone with information regarding suspected illegal tobacco or alcohol products in the Leith area can call the HMRC hotline on 0800 59 5000.
