A man was found dead and a woman injured when fire crews were called to a blaze at an Edinburgh flat.
Police are treating the death as suspicious after fire fighters from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service were called to the property on Chalmers Crescent in the Grange area of the city just after 8am on Monday.
When they arrived they found the ground floor flat burning and managed to rescue the woman, who is in her 20s, from the flames. She was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance.
Firefighters also found the body of the man in the flat.
Lothian and Borders Police closed Grange Road and Palmerston Road, as they work with firefighters to investigate the blaze and are appealing for witnesses.
A police spokesman said: "We can confirm that we are investigating the death of a man who died in a suspicious fire that broke out within a property in Chalmers Crescent, in the Grange area of Edinburgh, around 8.20am today.
"A woman who was rescued from the ground-floor property is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
"At this time inquiries are at an early stage, and we are working with the fire service in order to establish the cause of the blaze.
"We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Chalmers Crescent at the time the fire broke out, who noticed any suspicious activity, to contact police immediately on 0131 311 3131, or anonymously through Crimestoppers in 0800 555 111."
