Two men robbed in city underpass

Inquiry: Police say the assault happened shortly before midnight.

Two men have had cash and their mobile phones stolen after being attacked in an underpass in Edinburgh.

The duo were walking through the Telfer underpass, which connects Dundee Street to Caledonian Crescent in the Dalry area of the capital, near the FountainPark Centre, when they were targeted by two men.

The assailants punched them and threatened them with a broken glass bottle before making off with their phones and a quantity of cash.

Lothian and Borders Police said the victims were left "shaken" by the incident, which happened at about 11.45pm on Friday.

The suspects are described as white, 25-30 years old and 6ft 2ins to 6ft 3ins tall. One had a scar on the right side of his face running from his ear to his chin, short dark or grey hair and stubble, and wore a black hooded top with a distinctive "V" logo.

The other attacker had short dark hair shaved at the sides, dark eyebrows and dark stubble, and wore a black zip-up hooded jacket and dark jeans.

A police spokesman said: "Both victims were left shaken by the incident and we are appealing for any information that can help us identify the suspect.

"Anyone who was in the area of Dundee Street or Caledonian Crescent at the time the incident took place, who saw anyone acting suspiciously there, should contact police.

"Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect should also get in touch."

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
