A woman has been charged with fraud in connection with money raised for a children’s hospital.
The 47-year-old has been charged and will appear in court next month. STV understands it is Elaine McGonigle, a former director of the charity.
Concerns were raised about the New Pyjamas Campaign last year when financial irregularities came to light.
Lothian and Borders Police started an investigation into claims of fraudulent activity at the charity in February of this year.
The campaign was set up by the Sick Kids Friends’ Foundation to raise £15m for the new hospital at Little France in Edinburgh. They wanted to pay for top-class equipment and research facilities outwith standard NHS budgets.
The Sick Kids is due to move from its current site in Sciennes in 2013.
The high profile campaign was set up in February 2009 and had backing from former First Minster Jack McConnell and Lord Foulkes.
But it was closed down a year into the campaign when it had made a £500,000 loss.
An investigation was launched into the conduct of staff, and the foundation reported its findings to the police. A subsequent investigation by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator cleared the Sick Kids Friends' Foundation itself of any wrongdoing.
