The fifth of November will be a night to ‘remember, remember’ for a National Lottery-funded charity from Edinburgh, whose work will be recognised in front of a host of celebrities and VIPs on national television.

Live on BBC One, the National Lottery Awards 2011 promises glitz and glamour in celebration of the achievements of UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects.

Waiting to find out if they have won a trophy live on prime time national TV is one of Edinburgh’s oldest charities, the Dean and Cauvin Trust, which has been providing a service to Edinburgh’s vulnerable young people since 1733.

Its Lottery-funded Aftercare Service is in the running for a National Lottery Award for the work it does helping young people secure and set up a home, access education and training opportunities, as well as develop the crucial skills required to successfully manage a tenancy.

All 22 finalists in the running for a National Lottery Award have already received Lottery funding, and how they have used this funding will be showcased by a short film on the awards show before the winners are announced.

There are seven awards categories representing each of the main areas of Lottery funding: sport, heritage, arts, environment, voluntary or charity, health (in association with iVillage.co.uk) and education (in association with Best magazine).

The winning project in each category will be presented with an award and a £2,000 cash prize.

Richard Costigan, from the Dean & Cauvin Trust, said: “We are really grateful for all the support we received during the public voting. It’s fingers crossed now that we’ve done enough to win. We are thrilled to be going to London to find out on live TV whether or not we have won a National Lottery Award.

“Lottery funding has made such a difference to our project and it would be the icing on the cake for our staff, young people and all our project’s supporters to receive national recognition for the positive impact they make.”

Myleene Klass, the show’s host, added: “I’m delighted to be presenting The National Lottery Awards 2011, which should be a memorable night for everyone involved and millions watching at home.

“The show will recognise the immense impact that Lottery-funded projects have on people and communities across the UK. It is amazing that National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes, funding everything from village halls, local sports clubs to museums.”
