Frightened staff at a city betting shop handed over more than a thousand pounds to a 'scarred' robber in a raid on Saturday.
The man walked into a branch of Ladbrokes in Edinburgh at about 9.45pm and demanded money from cashiers.
He made off from the Home Street bookies with a four figure sum.
Police hunting the robber say he is white, in his 30s, of medium to stocky build, about 5' 6 " with light brown, gingery hair.
He had distinctive facial features, which may have been either acne scars or possibly freckles.
He was wearing a black-hooded, waist-length waterproof-type jacket, blue jeans and white trainers and spoke with a Scottish accent.
Police say the area was busy at the time and they are appealing for any witnesses to call Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131.
