Treat your loved one to a sustainable Valentine’s Day with a one-off event set to be held at the city’s Waste Education Cabin.

Visitors will be able to find out what happens to recycled waste at the special family fun day, as well as learn about why it’s important to reduce and reuse.

Families will also be given a tour of the Seafield Community Recycling Centre, where the cabin is based, where they will get tips on reducing food waste and see crushing machines in action.

Amongst the other highlights will be the opportunity for children to design their own Valentine’s Day brooches out of recyclable material, as well as prizes, competitions and freebies.

Councillor Robert Aldridge, the City of Edinburgh Council’s environment leader, said: “This is a great opportunity to get the children involved in Valentine’s Day celebrations and what better way to learn about the city’s waste than through this fascinating and informative open day.

“The Waste Education Cabin has proven to be extremely popular with children and adults alike who are all encouraged to do their bit to reduce, reuse and recycle.”

The cabin is part of the council’s efforts to help residents recycle 50 per cent of their waste by 2015.

The family day will take place on Tuesday, February 14 from 11am to 3pm.
