A delivery driver has had his van and pet dog stolen after leaving the keys in the vehicle's ignition.
The man left his Collie inside a white transit van as he delivered milk to a shop in Main Street, Longridge on Wednesday morning.
When he returned 15 minutes later at 9.30am, he found it had been stolen — along with his dog.
Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft in West Lothian and warning motorists not to leave their vehicles unlocked.
A police spokesman said: "The driver has been left utterly distraught at the theft of his van, but more importantly, his pet dog.
"Anyone who comes across an abandoned Collie is asked to alert their local policing team.
"We would also ask anyone who was on Main Street yesterday morning and saw anything suspicious to contact police immediately.
"Motorists are reminded never to leave a vehicle insecure when it is unattended and to either take valuable possessions with them or keep them hidden out of sight."
Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
