An arrest warrant has been issued over the murder of a Polish man in Edinburgh.

Maciej Ciania, 34, was found dead at his flat in Dickson Street in Leith at around 9am on Saturday January 14.

It is understood he could have been dead for up to two days before his flatmate discovered his body.

On Tuesday, Lothian and Borders Police said they had issued an arrest warrant for Grzegorz Gamla. The 25-year-old, from the Lublin area of Poland, has lived in Scotland for a number of years.

Police have also submitted a report to the procurator fiscal.

Mr Ciania’s family in Poland have been left "devastated" by his death.

His sister Aleksandra, 42, said: "Our whole family is devastated by Maciej's death, and we cannot imagine our life without him. My parents have lost a much-loved son, and I have lost not only a sibling but a friend.

"Maciej loved living in Edinburgh and was a popular person with many friends. He will be sorely missed.

"I am appealing to anyone who can help the police find his killer to come forward immediately, and allow my family to find some peace in the knowledge that the person who murdered him has been found, so that no other family will suffer like we are."

As part of the inquiry, appeals were translated into Polish, Russian and Lithuanian to reach out to the Eastern European community. A reward of £1000 was also offered for any information which led to an arrest.
