Man dies in hospital after road collision in Fife

A 55-year-old man who was airlifted to hospital following a road crash in Fife has died from his injuries.

The man was flown to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after the Ford Focus he was driving collided with a Ford Transit van on the B9157 Invertiel Road near Kirkcaldy.

A passenger in the car had minor injuries and the driver of the van was uninjured in the accident, which happened at around 7am on Friday.

Fife Constabulary said the man would not be named until relatives had been informed.

The road was closed near Cuddyknowes Cottages while officers carried out an investigation into the crash.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

Chief Inspector Brenda Sinclair, the force's head of road policing, said: "Investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the accident and I would appeal to anyone in the area at the time who may have witnessed the accident or seen a blue Ford Focus or a white Transit van around 7am this morning to contact us."
