Saturday is upon us and the weekend opportunities seem endless. To lie in or to go out? Why not check out our five-a-day while you’re deciding?
Perhaps the most high profile event today is the Britain’s Got Talent auditions, which will take place in the capital for the first time since ITV’s talent show launched in 2007. Judges Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon will grace the stage of the Festival Theatre to decide the fate of Edinburgh’s wannabes - will they find the next Susan Boyle? But if you’re hoping to show up and find fame, don’t bother, applications have already closed. Visit the Britain’s Got Talent website.
For a more serene way to spend your Saturday, local charity Greener Leith have arranged the Leith Links Children's Orchard volunteer day. Not only will participants be able to help clean up the green space, plant bulbs and learn about tree pruning in association with the Royal Botanic Gardens Edible Gardening project, the first Good Gym will also take place, with personal fitness trainer Tracy Griffen and Leith FM DJ and local blogger Leah Lockhart joining in for a jog. For more information on the event, which takes place on Leith Links from 10am, visit Greener Leith’s website?
The sporting theme continues with Hibs v. Aberdeen at Easter Road today. The Edinburgh side, who are sitting second from the bottom of the Scottish Premier League, are hoping to win some points back when they play Aberdeen, who are feeling more comfortable at sixth place. Kick-off at 3pm, with full details on the Scottish Premier League website.
Providing a place or all the young fathers with no interest in Hibs, Dads Rock will hold its first meeting today. The only dads-only playgroup in Edinburgh, sessions at Sighthill’s Gate 55 centre will allow men to spend some quality time with their children while chatting with other dads about their experiences. The group takes place from 10am to 11.30am and is for under-four-year-old children only. Read the full article on STV Local
And from daddies to mummies, an exhibition featuring Egyptian treasures will begin at the National Museum of Scotland today. Fascinating Mummies will feature exhibits dating back as far as 4000BC, from mummified people to coffins and amulets, as well as information on the science behind the display.
