Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon has bemoaned the defending that saw his team leave Fir Park with nothing on Wednesday night.

Motherwell ran out 4-3 winners in the Scottish Premier League match and Fenlon insisted that when his team score goals they should be taking points.

“We are disappointed, we have came here and scored three goals and got nothing out of the game," he said.

"I thought we killed ourselves tonight, we gave away sloppy goals and put in rash challenges at time when we should stay on our feet in the penalty area.

"You would think before the game that if we came here and scored three goals then we would win the game but instead we have left with nothing."

The result leaves Hibs in a precarious position at the bottom end of the table, just ahead of Dunfermline on goal difference, though holding a game in hand over the Pars.

Fenlon said that nerves had played a part in his side’s shaky defending and said that a more disciplined approach was need from his players.

“When you have been at the bottom of the table for a long time, which the club has been, you can get a little edgy," the manager admitted.

"We can't continue to give away the goals that we are, it's ludicrous stuff. We did well to get back into the game at 2-2 and hoped we could hold on and take a point, but couldn't do that.

"The work-rate and effort is there, but we must stick to the game plan and not go away from that."
