Police in Edinburgh have issued a warning after a quantity of prescription medication was stolen from a house in the city.

The incident happened between 1pm and 4.15pm on Tuesday December 22 in Queensferry Road.

The suspect got into the house and took the drugs, which had been prescribed to treat Parkinson’s Disease.

Approximately 51 citalopram, 60 amitriptyline, 100 lorazepam and 32 Nitrazepam 5mg tablets were stolen. These drugs can have a range of effects including seizures and nausea, and could possibly be fatal if taken by anyone whi has not been prescribed them.

An amount of money was also stolen during the break-in.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: "This is a despicable act of theft that has left the victim out of pocket and requiring new medication. 

"We are eager to hear from anyone with information that can assist with our enquiries and help locate those responsible.

"The drugs that were taken present a serious health risk if taken by anyone other than the prescribed sufferer and we would urge anyone who comes across them not to consume them and contact police immediately."
