At around 10pm on Sunday night a walker on the hill alerted the police that they had found a body in a remote area. Police investigated and confirmed a short time later that it was a body, but were unable to remove it from the hillside immediately because of the inaccessibility of the area it was found.
On Monday police - assisted by a specialist team from Tweed Valley Search and Rescue - recovered the body from the area of the hill known as the Dry Dam on Monday afternoon.
Forensics officers have also been at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
There were no reports of anyone getting into difficulty on the hill on Sunday night, and it has not yet been established how recently they died.
Police are hoping to establish the identity of the man and a post mortem examination is now expected to take place.
