An RAF Kinloss serviceman has his eyes on Gold in Lossiemouth this month.
The Lossiemouth Community Centre is to host a major martial arts championship later this month.
The Scottish Tang Soo Do martial arts championships are coming to the Moray town, and amongst those seeking to pick up honours will be a serviceman from RAF Kinloss.
Lance Corporal David Grant, 37, who works for the Military Provost Guard Service at the Moray base, is a green belt in the sport, having only taken part for the first time a little over two years ago.
In that short time David has already tasted competitive success, with a total of 12 gold and four silver medals to his credit.
Tang Soo Do is a Korean form of Karate that was first introduced to the UK in 1974.
The art teaches mental and physical training through stances, patterns or forms, breathing exercises, self defence, hand and foot techniques, sparring and free fighting.
David, from Elgin said: “I have recently been diagnosed with type two diabetes, so training has been difficult in the past few months from major weight loss and a change of diet and medication.
“But I am determined to overcome my illness by winning the Gold for Scotland.
“If I come home with gold or silver from these championships, my next step is to compete in the world Championships.
“Tang Soo Do is a real inspiration to me and it has given me real drive in reaching my goals. I’m committed to achieving my black belt.”
David believes that he is the only member of the forces taking part in the competition which has attracted over 100 entrants.
