Singer Amy Macdonald kicks off STV Appeal gigathon around Scotland

A sell-out crowd headed to the first of Amy Macdonald’s five gigs in aid of the STV Appeal at Aberdeen on Tuesday morning.

The city’s Lemon Tree hosted the gig with doors opening at 8am for the performance as the singer-songwriter prepared to travel to Dundee, Stirling, Edinburgh and Glasgow before the end of the day.

Capacity at the venue was reduced to 200 for the intimate acoustic gig with all tickets snapped up before the songstress hit the stage at 8.30am.

Although early the Aberdeen crowd warmed quickly during the five-song set as Mcdonald blasted through fan favourites Mr Rock N’ Roll and This Is The Life.

Pride, Love Love and Slow It Down also made an appearance.

Macdonald, who has just released her third album Life in a Beautiful Light, said: “It was great with a very enthusiastic crowd for 8.30am in the morning so I was very pleased with them. They set the bar high and I’m looking forward now to getting on to Dundee. One down four to go

“I’m looking forward to the travel because I get a chance to have a nap. I hope we don’t get caught up in the Olympic Torch relay.”

Fans were equally impressed by the star's performance.

Danny Aitchison, 21, said: “It was great. I’ve seen her three or four times now. I enjoyed it so much I wanted to come and it was no problem to get out of bed.”

The STV Appeal 2012 is raising funds to help children and young people in Scotland who are affected by poverty. The appeal works with major charities and local initiatives in tackling the problem which affects one on four children in Scotland.

Last year the appeal raised almost £1.3m which was distributed to charities and projects across Scotland.
