Singer Sharleen Spiteri has been in Prestwick opening a new musical garden at Clic Sargent's holiday home.

The house run by the children's cancer charity offers breaks to children and young people with cancer and their families.

The garden, which features drums, chimes and a xylophone, was made possible thanks to donations and its hoped will help to enhance the lives of the youngsters who visit.

The house, which marks its 21st anniversary this year, offers breaks and specialist weekends for children and young people with cancer and their families.

Speaking to Sharleen Spiteri, she said: "I think it's going to bring a lot of smiles and laughter and stimulation to a lot of the kids, and that's all we can ask.

She added: "It's giving them a bit of freedom, it's giving the families a little bit of freedom that they are allowed for a couple of days and I don't think any of us can understand or hope to understand what its like to be in this position with a sick child and you must feel like you are living in the smallest box in the world and hopefully this gives them a bit of a rest and to be able to talk to other families as well."

The completion of the garden is part of the year-long programme of events to mark the 21st anniversary of the Malcolm Sergent House. Since it opened thousands of families affected by childhood cancers have had the chance to take a break there.
