Arrest after woman delegate found dead at HIV conference at SECC

A man has been arrested after a woman's body was found in the SECC's Armadillo building during a HIV conference in Glasgow.

Khanokporn Satjawat, of Thailand, was pronounced dead at the medical centre close to the facility on Monday, having been found fatally injured in toilets at the Armadillo building.

Ms Satjawat, 42, was a manager of a pharmaceutical company in Thailand and was a delegate attending an international conference on HIV therapy, which was being held at the Clyde Auditorium this week.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with her death, which occurred at around 2.30pm on Monday.

Her relatives have been made aware of her death and a report will now be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

A spokeswoman for the SECC said it would not be appropriate to comment on the matter other than to confirm that it is co-operating with police enquiries.

An international conference on Drug Therapy in HIV Infection is being hosted at the SECC this week, and is scheduled to run until Thursday.

The organisers of the conference, the KnowledgePoint360 Group, declined to comment on the death.

It was being held at the Armadillo, but was transferred to hall four of the main SECC complex on Tuesday, as police officers closed off the auditorium while investigating the death.

Thousands of other delegates at the HIV conference were questioned by police investigating Ms Satjawat's death.

The man is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Ms Satjawat attended the medical research Mahidol University in Bangkok, according to her Facebook profile, while she was previously a pupil of Mahapruttaram Girls' School in the city.
