Security guard charged with murder of delegate at SECC conference

A security guard has appeared in court charged with the murder of a Thai pharmaceutical company manager at the SECC in Glasgow.

Clive Carter, 34, a security guard with G4S, is accused of killing Khanokporn Satjawat at the Clyde Auditorium, also known as the 'Armadillo' on Monday.

He allegedly murdered the 42-year-old in the female toilet on the second floor of the SECC building by repeatedly striking her on the head and body with an instrument.

She was a manager for a pharmaceutical company and was a delegate at a conference being held at the SECC.

Carter, of Glen Court, Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Defence lawyer Diarmid Bruce who represented Carter said: "My client made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody pending further examination."

He appeared before sheriff Danny Scullion and is expected to appear in court again next week.

A spokesman for G4S said: "We are cooperating fully with Strathclyde police and their investigation and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
