Demonstrators in Glasgow have occupied a branch of the Lloyds TSB bank in a protest against spending cuts

Around a dozen people went into the branch in the city's St Vincent Street and unveiled posters and chanted slogans.

The protest took place at around 11am, and it followed a march from outside Glasgow City Chambers in nearby George Square.

Those involved, calling themselves Citizens United Against Cuts to Public Services, say that the direct action protest was against the cuts to welfare and social services proposed by the Westminster government, and to challenge and expose the "greed and criminality" of the UK banking system.

Police were called to the scene and the protesters agreed to leave peacefully.

There were no arrests made during the protest.

The bank was closed while the protest took place, but has since reopened.
