The new multi-million pound Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility has been officially opened in North Lanarkshire by the area's Provost.
Provost Tom Curley unveiled the ceremonial plaque before hand-picked guests - including former Scotland rugby star Gavin Hastings and Sportscotland chairman Louise Martin.
Talented youngsters from across the region gave displays of football, gymnastics, badminton, tennis and cheerleading.
Provost Curley said: "It is a great positive story for the area. This is one of the highlights of my career today.
"This opening ceremony is something I will remember all my days."
Ms Martin earlier spoke to the guests, praising the centre as a great landmark for the future of Scottish sport in a number of disciplines.
She said: "It is so important that centres like Ravenscraig fill a dual responsibility - to train our elite sportsmen and women and to create a hub for the people of Lanarkshire."
The centre opened to the public in November.
