Glasgow's wholesale markets are some of the city’s hidden gems.

While many people are dreaming in their beds, hundreds of workers and early morning bargain hunters are buzzing around here looking for produce of all shapes, sizes and colours.

Located in the north of the city, the fruit, vegetable and flower market is one of the largest horticultural markets in the United Kingdom, employing over 600 people.

Buyers come from as far away as the North of England and Northern Ireland to find a deal. With an estimated turnover of £250m, the market operators boast produce from all over the world.

The fish market, next door to the fruit and veg market, employs another 100 people. Around 18 companies are based here.

Popular with members of the city's ethnic minority communities, many other Glaswegians simply don't know it is here.

The fish market recently received a development grant of over £882,000 from the European Fisheries Fund, which will help to continue its growth. If you want to experiment with fresh food from all over the country, set your alarm and pop along to see what takes your fancy.
