A man has been convicted of sexually assaulting two women in his car while posing as a taxi driver.
Sajjad Hussain, who has a previous conviction for a similar offence, picked up his victims as they waited on taxis after nights out with friends. The two women, aged 23 and 39, were attacked after getting into his car in Glasgow.
Hussain, 42, groped the women's breasts and stroked their legs and also tried to kiss one of them. His 39-year-old victim told police: "I will never forget what happened in the car for the rest of my life."
The former cab driver, who is already on the Sex Offenders’ Register, claimed he was at his home with his brother on both occasions last year. But on Monday, a jury at Glasgow Sheriff Court found him guilty of the assaults on July 7 and November 5 last year.
The court heard from both of Hussain's victims. The 23-year-old told the jury Hussain's car was a "private hire looking car" and was waiting outside a casino on Glasgow's Sauchiehall Street around 6am last July.
She said when she heard the driver would charge her only a few pounds to get home and opened the passenger door for her she got in. After she arrived at her destination in Tradeston, Hussain attacked his passenger.
Procurator fiscal depute Natalie Henderson asked the girl: "Tell me what happened when you arrived at your street?" She said: "I had the money in my hand and the driver leaned over me and tried to kiss me on my face then put his hand down my top into the bra."
"And, when I pushed him off he said 'You know you want it' and I said 'No I don't', shoved him off me, chucked the money and ran out of the taxi."
Hussain's next victim got in to his car months later at Battlefield Road, Glasgow, believing it to be the taxi she thought her friend had phoned. While driving her home, Hussain's hand brushed her leg.
She said she thought it was an accident after his hand accidentally touching her while changing gears. Ms Henderson asked: "What happened after that?" The woman replied: "It was almost immediately after that he touched my leg again with his left hand."
She was asked: "How did he touch your leg?" The witness replied: "Kind of like a grope of the leg, like a squeeze." She added that Hussain moved his hand up her body and touched her chest over her clothes. The court heard the woman ran from the taxi when it stopped at traffic lights and she immediately got help and went to the police.
Sheriff Sam Cathcart deferred sentencing until later this year for background reports.
