A woman has been left with severe facial injuries after she was indecently assaulted at knifepoint in Hamilton.
At around 9pm on Saturday September 24, the woman got off a bus in the town's Burnbank Road just past the BP filling station. As she crossed the road at the traffic lights into Ann Court she was approached by a man.
He put his arm around her and held a knife to her face and indecently assaulted her before she was able to break free from his grasp and make her way home.
The woman was taken to Hairmyres Hospital by a friend for treatment for severe facial injuries which she sustained in the attack.
The man is described as between five feet seven to five feet eight inches tall and with a medium build, and was wearing a red jumper.
Edward Mather from Strathclyde Police, who is dealing with the enquiry, said: "This was a very frightening ordeal indeed for the female involved, who received severe injuries to her face that will most probably lead to permanent scarring.
"The Burnbank Road area is a very busy road, with both motorists and pedestrians, so I would appeal to anyone who may have seen someone fitting the description of the male.
"It is imperative we trace this male. Indeed, I would like to speak to anyone who may have information or who may have witnessed suspicious activity by a male around the Burnbank Road or Ann Court area."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Hamilton Police Office on 01698 483000 or to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
