Glasgow clubbers will be the first in Scotland to try out a new ID scanner which will use customers' fingerprints to verify their age.
The scanner is being installed in a three clubs in the city - Campus, O’Couture and Club 520. Once customers have registered their details and provided a thumbprint, they will no longer have to bring ID to gain admission.
The scheme is backed by Strathclyde Police as part of an initiative to tackle underage drinking.
Carlo Citti, the club owner whose has introduced the idea, said: "In the past 14 days, over 7000 people have registered through our scheme. And out of that 7000 people we have actually caught 19 people with forged passports that were under age.
"The machine actually works. It has kept 19 people that had forged documents out of our nightclub, so it keeps it pretty safe."
Chief Inspector John Patterson of Strathclyde Police added: "The restriction of alcohol to those who are underage will make a huge difference in reducing violence, disorder, anti-social behaviour and also help to keep our communities safe."
