A teenage girl plunged from a six-storey city centre car park as shoppers looked on.
The girl was with friends on the top floor of the NCP car park in Glasgow's Mitchell Street around 4.30pm on Wednesday when she fell to the pavement.
She was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where she is in a critical condition.
According to witnesses the teenager was playing with friends on the roof of the car park when she fell into Union Square.
A spokesman for NCP Michelle McArthur said: "We were made aware a teenage girl had fallen from the car park in Glasgow but we are not commenting any further until we have heard from police."
A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said: "Around 1635 hours on Wednesday 26 October 2011, police were called to a report that a female had fallen from Mitchell Street car park into Union Square.
"The injured female has been taken to GRI where she is being treated for serious injuries. Police enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances.
"The female is still detained within hospital in a critical but stable condition."
"Detective Inspector Fil Capaldi of Stewart Street CID is appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who was parked on the 5 or 6 floor of the parking facility. Please contact officers on 0141 532 3000."
