Paramedics had their bag containing hospital drugs stolen from their ambulance while they attended a 999 call.

The ambulance workers responded to an emergency call in South Lanarkshire on Boxing Day when the thief struck.

They were called to a property in Logan Street, Blantyre, at around 1pm. When they returned to their vehicle, the paramedic response bag was missing.

Strathclyde Police are appealing for information after the bag was handed into Blantyre Police Office by a member of the public who had found it in a garden in the town’s Anford Place nearby the following morning.

A blue medicine bag was missing from the case. It has a carry handle and is embroidered with a Scottish Ambulance Service badge and ‘Paramedic Kit’ on the front.

Officers are warning the public not to attempt to take any of the medicines that are missing, which include intravenous diazepam known as diazenuls, while there are also doses of cardiac drugs adrenaline, atropine and amiodrone that have been stolen.

The bag also contained nitro-glycerine, known as GTN, which police said should only "be taken under strict medical supervision."

Sergeant Mark Stirling said: "Firstly I am appealing to anyone who may have seen someone hanging around Logan Street around lunchtime on Boxing Day to get in touch, or anyone who noticed someone with a paramedic response bag.

"I would also warn any member of public not to take any of these medicines as they should only ever be given under medical supervision."

If you have been offered these hospital drugs, or have any information that can help police enquiries, call Blantyre Police Office on 01698 202500.
