A police officer and father-of-four has died suddenly after collapsing during a football match.
Strathclyde Police sergeant Barry McGinley, 42, collapsed at the Powerleague five-a-side football pitches in Hamilton on Thursday afternoon.
The married father-of-four young children was a community officer in Larkhall and served for a number of years in East Kilbride.
A spokewoman from the Scottish Ambulance Service said: "At 4.45pm on Thursday, January 5 an ambulance was called to Bothwell Road in Hamilton with reports of a cardiac arrest.
"The male was then taken by crews to Wishaw General."
Tributes were paid to Mr McGinley on Twitter. One friend said: "My friend Barry died today. Too young to leave his wife, 4 kids and friends behind. The world has lost a very good man. RIP Barry McGinley."
Funeral arrangements will be made once a post-mortem examination takes place.
