A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being found seriously injured at a block of high-rise flats.

Strathclyde Police said the man, 32, had been the victim of a "serious and violent attack".

He was discovered on a common stairwell within a tower block in Lincoln Avenue, in the Knightswood area of Glasgow, at around 12.30am on Saturday.

Police said he had sustained a number of serious injuries, and that the attack was being treated as attempted murder.

He was taken to the city's Western Infirmary where he is said to be in a critical condition.

Officers have been conducting door-to-door inquiries and gathering CCTV images in a bid to gain more information.

Detective Inspector Fil Capaldi, leading the investigation, said: "At this time it's not clear how this man came about his injuries. We do know that he has suffered a sustained and prolonged attack although the motive is unclear at present.

"I am appealing to local residents in the area to contact us so that we can find out what has happened and who has carried out this violent assault. I urge anyone with any information, even if they think it's not important, to pass it on to us as it could help us piece together the circumstances of what took place."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Drumchapel police office on 0141 532 3615 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
