Lorry driver who died after being struck by passing tanker on M74 named

A lorry driver who died after being hit by a passing tanker on the M74 has been named.

John McQuade, of Livingston, was struck by the vehicle as he adjusted straps on his lorry near Hamilton on Wednesday morning.

The 47-year-old was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General but died as short time later after the collision at around 7am.

Strathclyde Police said a report on the death has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

The 43-year-old driver of the tanker was not injured in the crash.

On Wednesday the southbound carriageway was closed between junctions six and seven for around five hours as emergency services dealt with the incident.
