Two men have been detained by police following an early morning blaze in multi-storey flats in Glasgow.

More than 30 firefighters tackled the fire that broke out on the 14th floor of a block of flats on Wyndford Road in Maryhill.

Police were called to the scene at around 2am on Tuesday following reports of a disturbance.

On arrival they discovered that the flat was on fire and alerted fire crews.

Two men, aged 18 and 19 years old, managed to escape from the flat by climbing onto the balcony next door.

They were treated by ambulance crews and taken to the Western Infirmary.

Both men have now been detained by police.

A further occupant from an upstairs flat was treated for chest pains but did not need to go to hospital.

Residents from the block of flats were evacuated until the blaze was brought under control.

Investigations are now ongoing to determine the cause of the blaze.

A spokesman from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service said: "This was a very demanding incident both physically and logistically for all services in attendance.

"Crews were faced with a fire fully involved."

He added: "Our investigating team and the police will be carrying out a joint investigation. There is no further information on the cause of the fire."

A spokeswoman from Strathclyde Police said: "Police attended a report of a disturbance at a flat on Wyndford Road in Maryhill. On arrival they discovered that the flat was on fire and alerted Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service who attended and extinguished the fire.

"Two men, aged 18 and 19 years old were removed from the flat and taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

"Both men are currently detained by police at this time.

"A number of residents were evacuated from their homes for a short time during the incident."
