A schoolgirl suffered a broken cheekbone after an armed robber threatened her and a friend with a knife during their lunch break.

The 14-year-old and 15-year-old girls were walking through Queens Park in Glasgow’s south side when they were approached by a group of four around 2pm on Thursday.

One of the group, a girl of around the same age, began talking to them before an older boy produced a knife and threatened the pair.

He demanded the 14-year-old’s mobile phone. She refused, before her attacker pulled her to the ground, causing an injury to her face.

She was taken to Glasgow Victoria Infirmary where she was treated for a broken cheekbone and later discharged.

Detective Constable Phillip Kennedy, of the robbery unit based at Pollok Police Office, said: "This was a terrifying attack on two young schoolgirls who were simply minding their own business on their lunch break.

"One of the young girls sustained a nasty injury to her face as a result of this horrible incident. I would like to speak to anyone who may have been within the park at the time the incident took place, and anyone who may have seen persons matching the suspects' descriptions in the area to get in touch with police."

The girl who approached the victim is described as around 14 years old, with ginger hair, freckles and was wearing a blue tracksuit.

Police said the attacker was as aged between 17 to 19 years old, with very short fair hair and was wearing a blue tracksuit.
