A kite surfer has been taken to hospital after getting tangled up in his lines.

The man, believed to be in his late 20s, was rescued by a lifeboat crew from RNLI Troon when he got into difficulty at about 2pm today near Ayr harbour in Ayrshire.

An RNLI spokesman said the casualty was located in water too shallow for the lifeboat to reach him, so a smaller vessel was launched and he was pulled from the water.

He was taken on to the beach, where paramedics were waiting, before being taken by ambulance to Ayr hospital.

The man was not believed to have been seriously injured.
