I booked scot travel for my holiday to turkey only found out by accident they collapased,its first year they have been flying from northern ireland and i know lots people due to go out within the next couple weeks,but wont have money to rebook at such short notice,and all the other companys have shot up there flights to 500 and above for august departures who in there right mind would pay that for flight only,i think its a disgrace they be allowed to do that if they had kept prices down they would sell more,i had to book flights from scotland because it was half the price there charging from belfast and thats with flights to and from glasgow.

I have no axe to grind (c'awa the Jags), but to my mind the best thing that Celtic could do in the situation is pay Martin O'Neill to come back. No? - go for the other sensible choices - David O'Leary or Lawrie Sanchez.

Gordon has had enough - he needs A REST. The best team in Scotland has beaten themselves into second place. Whoever it is in the team that is giving the psychological problems needs to be SOLD, preferably to AC Milan, Real Madrid, Man U or Barcelona, so "whoever it is" has to compete with other players with similar abilities, and can learn to play for the team.

There is an "edge value" with players - they don't have to be fast or skilled to be great, they need to be able to optimise what they have into a team situation. Kenny Dalglish had that ability to see what was happening - although methinks David Hay was the best ever Celtic player for "vision". Whatever, the best English players for that were Colin Bell (Toby the Tortoise for MC fans), Bobby Moore, and Maurice Norman (the centre half that couldn't tackle a fairy, but his anticipation skills got him into the England team).

Celtic need a manager that can teach his players to exploit their skills and develop opportunities. Gordon leaves them with a tight defence, but no attacking strategies. Rangers are not spending big bucks - but they have been gifted the trophy.

I think you've got to give Rangers more credit than that. They didn't bottle it, had a strong run in and won the trophy on merit. Regardless of whoever came behind them, they won it. Looks like Mowbray will be the new tic boss. His experience of the Premier league should see him all right there. Mind you, if he's not sure about the Glasgow goldfish bowl then he's making one hell of a mistake.

The headline to this article is patently false and misleading. Utility diversion works in Leith are almost a year behind schedule - so much so, that the much-lauded track-laying on Princes Street should have taken place in Leith months ago.

Even Richard Jeffrey, tie's Chief Executive has finally admitted that the project is running behind schedule and over-bidget.

Let us hope that Gordon Mackenzie does not follow in the footsteps of his less than illustrious predecessor, Phil Wheeler in making inane, baseless comments on the state of the tram project.

Its about time these shows and Simon Cowell were exposed. They peddle lies about some great recording contract or career, one that does not exist and never will . Simon Cowell has no idea about great music or great singers, but he does know what will make little girls get their parents to part with money.

Its time these types of programmes were stopped or alternatively let all decisions on voting be made by the public and let the cost of the calls be free. And when someone wins the prize should be winning - no contract after the show - better still SYCO and any person or company that has connections with him should not be allowed to sign them up - there should not be any tour after these shows either unless they are free.

I am disgusted that the Pritchards who were supposed to be caring for those poor neglected horses, deny any blame! I have never harmed an animal or such in any rite we celebrate. I totally agree with Kilwinning's comments. People who treat animals in such a manner must be banned from ever owning another animal, even a goldfish, for the rest of their lives.

There is, however, a further point I shall make. This situaation did not occur overnight and there must have been a number of people aware that things were not all that they should of been at the Pritchard's farm.

By definition, these people are just as guilty as the Pritchards, should they, the Pritchards, be found guilty of gross neglect in the welfare of the animals in their keep. To these people I say, "Go hang your heads in shame,you have failed."

She apparently needs 24-hour access to her doctor; and special consideration for tour dates (and may be unable to do them all); and careful handling due to her moods: her neighbors in West Lothian have talked about her history of temper tantrums when she doesn't get her way. Even her brother is quoted elsewhere as saying she suffers from mood swings. Is she a troubled innocent? Or a difficult-to-control diva? Either way, it detracts from her singing, and calls a career into question. Can she sustain a professional demeanor, and be consistent on and off stage thru the stresses from media? Can she last with these problems? The business is notoriously difficult and harsh.

People are polarized into camps of defenders vs. skeptics and critics. But it should be about the music, not the daily battle between fans and critics about her behavior and state of mind. This off-stage behavior, plus the strip teases and hip grinding onstage, all contribute to the image of an unstable woman. It should just be about the music. Will she be able to keep it professional and consistent? I worry about her.

That's what I don't get about the popularity of Susan Boyle's you-tube clip. People around the world have gushed about their emotional response, how it touched them and brought tears to their eyes. But it was staged! It was scripted for maximum effect, to heighten the "surprise" of the singing talent coming from this comical, frumpy woman. We were *set up* for the perfect ugly duckling to swan story. Instead of seeing how BGT exploited Susan, and how she was demeaned into a figure of ridicule, people around the world have bought into it, completely vulnerable to the manipulation.

It hurts Susan's image badly, we can only hope not irrevocably. To many of us, the exploitation is clear, and we wish Susan would sever all ties with the BGT tour. They've done nothing for her; it's all been for ratings and money.

When people write so effusively about the heart-tugging moment when Susan opened her mouth to sing, they don't seem to realize that this effect was achieved through a demeaning portrayal of her. For her sake, we need to see that clip for what it is. Exploitation.

I don't understand. The first BGT episode showed her saying she couldn't wait to sing for a large audience. So where is all this fragility coming from? I thought this was what she wanted. I thought it was the tabloids following her that was exhausting her, not singing for people.

Now it looks like it’s all too much for her. I'm from a family of professional musicians, and my mother used to have a saying: for a professional career to work, many elements need to come together, and if one or two elements are missing, the career won't happen. That includes health, emotional stability (enough to function), the right training, the ability to persevere, the desire, etc.

What is most disturbing is that her handlers are changing

who she is -- unless this is who she is. Charging all that money for her appearances because of her "celebrity" status. She didn't want celebrity. She wanted to sing. But if she charges that much, she's making her celebrity status her identity, not her musicianship.

Why can't she be singing for people who would really appreciate it? Why can't it be about giving back, like in nursing homes and schools and for charity? Wouldn’t’ that honor her mother more? Why can't it be about sharing instead of pure greed? This combined image of fragility and greed is making her look really bad. Doesn't she just want to sing for people who would love to hear her? Is this corporate greed what Susan really wants? Is her family pushing her? Or have we projected our views of the angel on someone who doesn’t really exist?

As one of Susan Boyle's millions of global fans, I'm not surprised that she stunned the crowd once again - she always does. Her lovely, soaring voice reaches us on a level that has never before been achieved.

I would like to set something straight, however. I have seen a video of her Sheffield performance and it was not a "mixed" review. The audience was on their feet cheering as soon as she walked onto the stage and remained that way throughout the entire set. Susan was magnificent, as usual.

She looked absolutely breathtaking, like a jewel shining up there on that stage and held the crowd spellbound.

Susan Boyle has charismatic stage presence - she is magic.

regretably I have to agree with most of what you write here.

I was hoping that we were just keeping a low profile regarding the signing of new players this term, after advertizing or intentions over the past few seasons and having them stolen from under our noses. I'm still hoping this is the case.

Rangers money problems stem from David Murray pursuing the European dream and it nearly paid off. Times are hard at the moment, but its all swings and roundabouts and I would not have changed a single thing during the glory years of 9 in a row. The champions league is a daunting prospect, and buying another 3 players won't make that much difference against the elite, its more likely to help against the 4th placed team in the pot.

By the way Christian Dailly does not play for Rangers anymore!

Yeh TM is a pretty good boss, gets his teams playing in the right way. But consider this. He is one of the few managers to be in charge at a newly promoted Premiership club, who just about went through the entire season rock bottom and West Brom still stood by him when it would have been very easy to make a change. They had a decent finish but still went down. Good on WB for showing faith and belief in Mowbray.

Too bad he didn't show them the same courtesy. If they had binned him he's be managed Crewe or sonmebody like that the now.

There are many excellent alternative or natural products on the market that can cure virus infections many of which have been medically researched and proven to be genuine. My favourite cocktail is coconut, olive leaf extract, and a capsule of oregano oil (not the culinary stuff). This regimen will rid the worst symptoms of influenza in around 5-6 hours.

Coconut but especially its virgin oil contains the same fatty-acid profile as mother's milk. One of those fatty-acids is lauric acid. Whenever a virus enters the body it hides itself from the immune system in an envelope of protein; lauric acid destroys this protein envelope and allows the immune system to do its job which it does effectively and efficiently. I use creamed coconut block which is available from the supermarket at between 60-80p. Whenever I am in contact with anyone who has the symptoms or if I feel the snuffles coming on I take a lump of creamed coconut block which rapidly kills the virus.

Olive leaf extract does a similar job but in a different manner and has many other benefits (with some people it may have a downside but this will only be of a temporary duration so keep taking it after which one will feel extremely well).

Oregano oil, like many tropical oils, possesses numerous health benefits and is popularly regarded as nature's antibiotic. It is too hot to take in its natural form so needs to be taken in capsule form. One capsule is usually sufficient but two if symptoms are severe. Do not take any of those as a prophylactic owing to the adaptive nature of viruses otherwise considerably higher doses of this cocktail would be required to effect a cure. Each of those substances (and there are others) clear the body of viruses but those three in particular are synergistic and work like magic.

I listen to her YouTube video just about every day. I have it on my hard drive so I can get to it. Her voice is sooooo beautiful it brings tears to my eyes. Of course she was exploited. The poor woman was made to look ridiculous on the first episode, to maximize the effect of the "surprise" of her singing. She was made a figure of derision, with comical music accompanying her entrance onstage, camera close ups of snickering audience members, and people rolling their eyes. It was all scripted to heighten the moment of surprise, when her singing would shock and charm. It worked beautifully and catapulted her into cult figure status. But were those tantrums back stage really about not winning? Or were they about the promises they made if she allowed them to manipulate her image? I think she knew exactly what they had done. I hope she gets herself new management, and cuts her ties to the BGT conglomerate. Her value to them is only the money she brings in.

Not surprised by any of selections. Hines was maybe possible for bench but he's a bit limited in line out position so may have been cause, but I think he has chance to force himself into Test side if he plays next Tuesday against Emerging Springboks.

Mr Flaps?! Garbage you say? Not at all...

I've seen Orbital a good few times, and I can honestly say that they've put on an incredible show each time. One of my favourite Orbital shows was at the Eclipse Festival in Cornwall (a long long time ago, 1999)!

But I think that the break has done them good... They really seemed to be enjoying themselves onstage at Rockness this year, whith one of the brothers sporting a kilt! And yes, the light show was astounding...

They finished just in time for me to run down the hill and catch the end of Basement Jaxx. And I'm gutted that I didn't get to see more of them... What an incredible party atmosphere, and everybody was in great spirits!

Rockness... Genuinely the best festival I've ever been to.

As your official reviewer said this extravaganza was absolutely fantastic. There are no words really to describe how awesome it was. From the atmosphere on the streets to inside the stadium itself it was BRILLIANT. When they got the crowd singing Flower of Scotland it was magic. Anyone going tonight or tomorrow are in for one of the best night of their lives. We were sitting beside two young couples with the men acting really nonchalontly but even they were up dancing and had to admit it was fabby. ENJOY!!

Fighting spirit from Lions - and so so close. Maybe should have taken the 3 points with 3 mins to go there, but tails were up and Boks were against the wall. Well done to Boks for holding out, but even though Lions lost there is a a glimmer of hope for next week, if can get srum sorted and stable and not give away silly penalities then anything is possible.

Vickery was outplayed and O'Connell was nearly sin binned himself so needs to lead from front. Roberts looks dangerous every time he gets the ball.

But well done Boks, showed us why you are World Champs, but a week is a long time in Lions tours and maybe room for Hines to get in and mix it up a bit.

I am still walking on clouds after the Take That concert. I have never seen anything like that in my life. The atmosphere was amazing and the boys and their cast of many were absolutely fantastic. Their hearts and souls were in everything they did and they all looked as if they were having a great time. Please come back and do it again!! It was indeed, the greatest day of our lives!

Last week my family went to the appeals committe to have our childs placement request granted at the closest school from our home which is half the distance of our catchment school and we do not need to cross any main roads yet to go to our catchment school need to cross 3main roads. .We feel that our local council miss lead the committee on sevral points of law and as the committee are not judges were in no posistion to comment on these issues .We also feel that the committee who spend all day having there lunch with the council solicitors and head of education are placed in a very unfair posistion. In my childs case we have actually got to walk through part of catchment area of the school we have applied for to get to our catchment area school also children who stay less than 120 meters from our catchment area school are sent to the closest school from our home in our case we are actually closer to the school we have applied for than 80% of that school catchment area surely your closest school should be your catchment school.Legal fees so far have reached #12.000 just to go to appeal in my case and i dont no what council fees are we turned up for our appeal and the council had 15 people in the room at the appeal what did this cost? the council have argued the 25 class figure which is only council policy and a political objective not goverment legislation which is if a parent requests for a place at the school of there choice the council should do there best to accommodate there child even if it means increasing the class size to 30 which has been set by goverment policy

You obviously put your hatred for Celtic before your career in writing. A terribly bitter article which doesn't mention about Mowbrays Championship success (a league more in tune with the SPL).

Great football is what we want at Celtic and TM is the man that we want at the helm. His style of play will suit a team like Celtic who can buy better quality players than the rest of our league.

I suspect that you are sat behind your laptop typing this nonsense with your blue-tinted spectacles on.

The Celtic fans are happy, the players are happy so thats all that counts for now.

i agree i was in the last 150 acts in britans got talent with susan boyle in glasgow last october and in feb in london and evan got into the last 150 acts with susan

she was treated really badly by the producers slagging her off at the glw as they did with me just because i wore a disco out fit they told me to were just a white shirt insted and that didint stop me getting into the last 75 acts

I cant help feeling that Tony Mowbray will be the next Tommy Burns, playing attractive football that’s good to watch but delivers no trophies.

The system has gone barking mad, non Scottish cultures display their flags, wear their traditional dress, build their own places of worship, they wear their traditional dress at our schools (which we are not allowed to comment on as it is looked upon as their right)) & even get school time set aside for their own teachings and yet we are losing our rights more & more day by day, what happened to our traditional school uniform no matter what colour or creed everybody should be made to wear them when attending our schools. THIS IS SCOTLAND the land of the scots & we have a right to fly our flag & wear our kilts and if other cultures are offended by this then why do they want to live in a country that offends them so much. If we were to live in their country we would be frowned upon if we didnt convert to their way of life, in fact they would expect us to. We are losing our human rights in our own country, no wonder there is so much hatred & racism.

Surely some mistake Mr Editor - Mark Venus states "If we have to miss the champions league qualifier...". This is edit to "Mark Venus will forgo champions league football..." Where did Mark Venus say that he would forego Champions League football? He is simply stating there should be no panic buys just to fill spaces in the squad prio to the qualfiers on July 27, but, this has been edit / re-constructed to give a completely different bias to his comments. I grew up in the same era as the Jackson Five and naturally became a lifelong fan of Michael In 1992 at the age of 32yrs I was fortunate enough to be in the 30 - 35000 strong crowd who attended part of his 'Dangerous Tour' at Glasgow Green. It was one of the most memorable days in my life.

I rememeber walking the full length of Argyle Street with my now (ex-wife) as we headed towards Glasgow Green. It was 4pm and I had just finished work - the sun was shining. The crowd had already began to assemble on the red ash pitch in front of the stage when we arrived however my ex-wife (who was my girlfriend at that time) and I were lucky enough to find a spot quite near the front. We stood rooted to our spot for about three hours before Michael Jackson appeared on stage. The crowd built up behind us and there was no way on this earth we could ever have got to a portaloo. When michael Jackson popped up on stage from 'underneath' the crowd erupted. It was incredible and in hindsight was probably one of the first times ever that an artist had arrived on stage by that means. The guy was 'phenomenal' - he danced and sang non-stop for two hours. The energy that he created was 'what can I say...... NUCLEAR'!!!! One of my most abiding memories was when he 'swung out' over the crowd on a platform whilst performing 'Dangerous'. The crowd were ecstatic. The climax to the concert was when Michael got into a 'space suit' with jet packs attached, lifted off from the stage and flew out of the ground. It was unbelievable !!!! I still don't know to this day if it was Michael himself who performed the stunt but if it wasn't then God only knows how they managed to do the 'swap over'.

All the pain of standing for five hours, being unable to move and being crushed to bits was 'well worth it' !!!!

Never ever thought I would have seen Michael Jackson perform 'live' in Glasgow - a dream come true and he was a ONE OFF !!!!!! A GLOBAL icon.

I had my first flight in 1992 to see Michael Jackson live in Wembley stadium during his Dangerous tour. What an amazing show. What an amazingly talented man, unfortunately misunderstood. As well as the ticket for the show, I also bought a great T-shirt in black showing only his eyes and a King of Pop baseball cap that I will treasure forever.

Was looking forward to seeing Michael Jackson at the 02 - have loved him since we were both children! He was magical to watch - I remember the release of Thriller being shown on tv - everyone watched! Its such a shame that a wonderful artist had such an unfortunate life - from the burning hair, plastic surgery that made a gorgeous man so weird looking, the child abuse allegations, law suits and the family and relationship problems. He was, I believe, a good, kind, innocent man who was foolish and niave in his actions, misunderstood and hounded - another victim of the media. I loved him for his genius - to see him at the 02 was my life-long dream and I along with millions of fans are devastated at the news of his death. I feel very sorry for his children.

I was working there, up in the posh seats and I loved it too, even though I wasn't particularly a Take That fan. I can honestly say I have never seen a show like it and I have seen many shows. I can not see how any other music show can beat that, but I will be interested to see what AC/DC, The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, U2 and Coldplay come up with at the same venue...

My mothers father was scottish born and bred and he married my grandmother (a londoner) even though his father are what my mother would say " VERY SCOTTISH" and they didn't want any english blood and after 4 kids when the marriage ended he went back to scotland and married "suitable" wife and both his new wife and his family told him he couldn't have any contact with my mother her sister and 2 brothers!! he did it!! he abandoned his children and my mother who when my grandmother died when she was 15 had to raise the others herself!! my grandfather died in 1999 and my mother was heartbroken coz they didn't even tell her she didn't find out until years later by chance! but dispite it all my mother has allways brought me up to respect BOTH countrys and to consider myself british!! She has allways said that where your born is only a small part of who you are and you can't paint someone bad or good by where they come from.

I have allways wanted to go to scotland and see my grandfathers grave but everytime i think i might anti-english comments pull me back, How can i be so hated by a country i've never even seen?

I am Scottish, I dont feel British at all.

Britishness is all about England, Cricket, Class structure and royalty and singing god save the queen etc.

I just cant associate myself with that, it so distant from where I live and so alien to where I grew up.

Scotland never was British till the so called act of union came into being, it was never welcomed by most Scots.

No chance they're going the way of Third Lanark, Motherwell are about the most consistently-profitable club in the SPL since they came out of administration.

And I seriously doubt Gannon would be the cheapest out of the people rumoured to be on the shortlist. Any Stockport fan will tell you he has a great ability to do wonders with a small transfer budget and bring young players through the ranks, which is exactly what Motherwell need right now a lot more than a 'famous name' like Sanchez or Staunton.

Further to that the majority of those polled want to stay in the Union. So where does that leave your bigoted argument.

i've pretty mixed emotions regarding bobo, he was great to have around, a great character on the pitch who gave us some fine performances amongst the shaky ones.

i think he was symptomatic of the difference between o'neil and strachans time as manager. One manager could lead a team of big strong and vocal characters whilst the other had a clear inability to deal with anything other than yes men... hence the sulks with more than just bobo.

also, i get the impression from many tim pals that there is a quiet satisfaction that bobo has refused to be bullied by the parkhead suits who have, in many many fans eyes, been responsible for a deliberate and willful downsizing of the club to the point that we cannot even compete with aalborg.

so thanks bobo, we never doubted your commitment and you gave us lots of good times and a few laughs as well.

I couldn't disagree more with the sentiment on how the Celtic supporters feel about this. Bobo Balde should never have been out of the Celtic side. He did stick two fingers up, but they were in my humble opinion, well deserved. Bobo wanted to play for Celtic. Stubborn little Strachan is the one who cost us 28,000 quid per week and subsequently the one million "loyalty" bonus. Bobo would have helped us clinch the fourth consecutive title by the middle of March. He was the best defender we have had since Caeser!! Bobo has been badly treated and had every right to make sure he got what was owing to him. After all, all he wanted was to play for Celtic.

Stephen Fletcher was obviously never really on Mowbrays radar. He is a good player but a striker has to be able to score goals when it counts, and of course when it doesn't. Fletcher was never that guy. He scored 50 goals in 150 appearances for Hibs. hardly the mouthwatering stats that are needed for a valuable striker. I wish him well, but do not see where he would have fitted in at Celtic Park.

I live in Canada, and when people hear call you a brit , they think you are from england, as that to them is British.

And yes i have heard all the rubbish about not living in Scotland, it does not take away the fact that i still call Scotland my home, and i am very proud of that fact.

When i tell them i am from Scotland , They do not call me a brit, They call me a scot.

The same goes for many countries in the world , and i have been in many and experienced the same comments.

The fact is that when you are called English there are many people who instantly do not like you., But when you say you are from Scotland , every thing changes.

Who really cares if Michael had a secret girlfriend or not? Thanks to this previous staff member its not such a secret anymore apparently? Michael seems to have been surrounded by many greedy or jealous people, they all seem to want to step into his shoes now he's dead - where were they all when he needed them most? Elizabeth Taylor stuck by him and a handful of others, the rest were thinking only of themselves. So far this week we've had the 'gay' theory and now it's the turn of the 'secret girlfriend' - give us a break and tell us something we want to know, like why is he not being buried at Neverland? Fans from all over the world want this, why, why, why isn't someone listening? He was our Michael too and we would like his last resting place to be a place where he was once happy and joyful. We need to make a campaign about this issue and fight for what we believe he wanted.

its all well and good that the council is trying to improve safety and combat anti social behaviour, but they need to look at the facilities for visitors to enjoy the shore. i was there not long ago and the public toilets were shut at 7.30pm. In most sporting events the anthem for english teams is usually God save the queen, But at some events Land of hope and glory is played.

The words to the anthem have changed many times, at one time included the words "Rebellious scots to crush"

I disembarked from Marco Polo on the day the new passengers embarked at Tilbury. People on our cruise most certainly heard that other passengers were suffering and missing meals and trips ashore. Within forty hours of leaving the ship I suffered extremely badly from vomiting and then diarrhoea which lasted more than three days. Hygiene precautions were stepped up for the last four days of cruise, suggesting that the captain and other members of the crew knew they had a problem. Passengers were not warned. The cruise commencing on 4th. July ought never to have been allowed to proceed. Hoping for a huge slice of good luck profits were put before people. The Company deserves to be prosecuted for not reporting the matter to the Port Authority as the Law requires.

Sundays highlights for me were Pendulum down at the NME stage. Despite my advancing years I managed to convince myself I could still mosh with the kids and come out unscathed.

Scotland is not run from Westminster. The process of devolution created a SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT with primarly legislative and administrative devolution, meaning SCOTTISH matters are decided in Scotland by SCOTTISH MSPs. BRITISH and ENGLISH matters are decided in ENGLAND by SCOTTISH, WELSH, ENGLISH and N.IRISH MPs. This means that Scottish MPs can vote on purely English issues, but English MPs decide on NOTHING for Scotland. This is why they have university fees in England, because Scottish MPs voted for it, hardly fair is it? The English do not even have a parliament of their own.

As for the claims England has profited from Scotland, the opposite is true! Scotland benefitted MASSIVELY from the Empire which was started by the and primarily maintained by the English. This is one of the primary reasons why the Act of Union (1707) was agreed upon, trade. This meant that Scotland was able to massively benefit from trade with the formerly English colonies, resulting in a massive influx of money and raw materials which meant that Scotland was able to industrialise rapidly along with England putting it at the forefront of Europe. Without access to English ports, cities and formerly exclusively English trading partners, Scotland would have been way behind England and relatively underdeveloped. An overwhelmingly English Navy brought Scotland masses of riches from accross the globe which it would otherwise not have got.

On top of this, many of the great Scottish inventions were directly dependent upon the union and the sharing of knowledge, technology and impact of English inspired industrialisation that came with it. Whether you like it or not the Union improved Scotland economically, gave it a far greater political say in the world and resulted in a cultural renaissance. All of these things have helped make Scotland the great country it is today.

What about the massive numbers of people who have been employed in the British defence industry? Scotland has benefitted massively over the past 300 years from the task of manufacturing ships and armaments for the BRITISH army. Also what is this rubbish about Scotland getting less funding etc than the English? The English get worse funding than the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish. In Scotland there is free prescriptions and tuition fees, in England thanks to Scottish MPs this is not the case. Under the Barnett formula each person in Scotland gets £1,100 more in public money than they do in England which amounts to a huge amount. In reality the English pay for Scotland to have free tuition fees and prescriptions and without an English parliament they can't even vote on the matter.

You're not Scottish, you're not British, you don't know anything about the culture, history, mannerisms or politics of the people here, so keep out of it. Mary Queen of Scots was French and she was Catholic, Scotland was at the time primarily Protestant and this has long since been the case. Seriously why do you think independence would suddenly make Scotland better? In the EU and the UN the influence of a nation is largely dependent on its population. 5 million = fook all influence. EU grants etc are not as easy to get as they once were and there is MUCH more competition for it between member states as a result of all the recent Eastern European joiners. If anything the English would be better off as they wouldn't be subsidising free prescriptions and tuition fees in Scotland so might be able to afford them themselves.

Sunday was Amazing I was at the centre front of the main stage from 12pm til the end of the festival after Blur. 11.5 hours standing crushed!!!

Blur were undoubtedly the best act on Sunday and probably the weekend! Where I was I could see they still had it. The atmosphere was brilliant and Damon even managed to lift an arm and point towards me with an intense look! Really good set despite it finishing early and the doubts along the way.

Made my weekend complete as know seen Oasis (3), The Verve, Supergrass and Blur all the great Britpop Bands!!!

What are you on about! I know reports are always skewed to some degree in bias but you are having a laugh! The Killers put on a monumental show everyone loved it and were bouncing - even the older people!

I went to have a look a NiN after The Killers finished and they didn't look anything special and the crowd was tiny! I honestly have never seen such a small crowd for a headliner at TITP in the last few years anyway!

Anyone in the right mind would have went to see The Killers or Manic Street Preachers! Which is obvously what did happen!

Simon Cowell, yes! ***DVD*** is definitely the way to go! I followed Susan Boyle on tour recently, watching innumerable cell phone videos through YouTube. Susan Boyle's beautiful and complex singing voice and her subtle dramatic interpretations of her songs unfailingly touch her viewers deeply and lift them up. Whatever Susan Boyle chooses to include on her album will make me very happy! I just want her to SING SING SING to us!! Susan Boyle's album will definitely be #1 this year, and each new album she releases after that will quickly reach the top! I believe it. I am absolutely a fan of your National Treasure, and I thank her and wish her all the best!

I don't understand the people in the U.K. who need hearing tests. First of all, at Semi-Final, that was only the SECOND TIME in Susan's life she had sung in front of an audience that large. So she missed the first note. So what! Barbra Streisand hasn't toured live in 25 years because of "mistakes" that happen in live performances. No one is perfect, including the people making these negative remarks about Susan's singing. She has a glorious voice, performed brilliantly on 20 of the 26 tour performances, missing only a few at the beginning. She got standing O's everywhere. If you all don't want to buy her CDs, believe me, Americans and others round the world WILL! Glad they're betting she'll be #1!!!

Perhaps Susan has had to draw a couple of "quid" once a week because she was not able to work ...and perhaps she has missed a couple of the BGT shows, and perhaps she is not "everyones cupa tea"...and perhaps she does have a slight learning difficulty ....but that is exactly what makes her achievement so amazing...makes her such a special person and an encouragement to millions around the world... she has brought a GLOAL audience to so many aspects of British life, and she has encouraged thousands to "revisit their own dreams", she has and will most probably continue to generate huge amounts of revenue directly and indirectly for Britain to adequatly compensate the Brittish public & Gov's support during her life.

So while you feel powerful and important and are having your 50 seconds of fame, as you rip into the life and charcter of Susan...an individual who has overcome incredible obstacles in life and who is now making a success of it...enjoy it but know this.. Susan has and will continue to achieve what most of us never will...because she has got guts ..guts to face her short commings, guts to overcome her limitations, guts to get up and make something of her life and she has refused to be limited by the "deck of cards" life has dealt her....

Before I start writing about what songs will be on Susan Boyle's Christmas album, I want to thank you for your informative article. It was enjoyable to read your article because you wrote about Susan with respect. You did not preface her name with all the negative decriptions which have plagued her arrival on the world stage. I thank you for that. Thank you for keeping us (all Susan's fans) posted with news of her upcoming CD and possible performance venues.

If, in fact this will be a Christmas album, traditional Christmas songs would be great. I can't wait to hear Susan singing them. I will buy multiple albums.

This story is the most unreal thing that I've ever witnessed.

A woman entered a talent competition and was viciously attacked by the vile tabloids, and people actually read them and believed it.

She was hounded and made a fool of for 7 weeks and people wonder why she was a nervous wreck.

It was brutal.

She's trying to get it together, but they just can't let up on her.

I wonder who'll they destroy next. I'm sure they'll find someone, they seem to thrive on other people's misery.

how would they know how many times susan may have applied for jobs? it's hard enough for a normal person with all their faculties to get a job these days let alone someone with learning difficulties, and particularly with the total number of jobs disappearing entirely!!

i read that she does do volunteer work for the church, so she is not lazy.

she has been blessed with a wonderful voice, i hope she uses it & makes a lot of money. i'm waiting for a DVD or CD to come on the market.

I must admit, after witnessing the attempted destruction of Susan Boyle by British tabloids and some individuals, I'm saddened.

I used to have very favorable views about Britain. Even when I traveled there and saw city workers rudely yelling at tourists to "learn English" and overheard nasty, prejudiced comments about other nationalities/ethnicities, I gave the country the benefit of the doubt.

Now, I'm forced to wonder if Britain (or at least England) is really as nasty and bitter as the tabloids and these comments make it seem. Is this the sort of international image Britons want to convey? Petty? Angry? Bitter? Without compassion?

It is not an image worthy of such a great country with such a spectacular history. But, maybe that's the problem - history. Maybe Britons have the "we used to be an Empire" syndrom and they just don't know how to cope now - especially since other EU countries are doing so much better economically.

I really wonder what lies underneath the bile spewed so easily at a woman who, according to all reports, has led a kind, caring life, caring for parents, brothers and sisters (who died), sick church members, and others down on their luck in her community. What causes such hatred toward this woman?

It's so sad. When things become tough, people can either support each other or turn on each other. Thank goodness in the US we have a gov't now encouraging us to help each other (after 8 very difficult years). Britain could learn a thing or two about kindness and hope.

The US is very far from perfect, and I wish we could be better, but right now, I'm proud to be here instead of in Britain.

Good points dyebat and Marty. Indeed, Susan's taxes will pay back what she's received from the state over the years (maybe already have paid it back, given the CD deal and the tour payment). As J.K. Rowling did - who was never attacked like Susan, for some reason.

And, I've also seen news of the foundation. Should help a lot of people. And I think it tells you the deep impact her learning disability has had on her life.

Of course, because Susan cared for her father, sister and mother at home, the state didn't need to take care of them in a hospital. Good thing she was there, then. Unfortunately for Susan, she had to give up her spot in Edinburgh acting school to go home and care for her Mom. I guess we should attack her for that, too.

Finally, the global awareness of Britain and Scotland in the US has gone up tremendously. The number of tourists staying in hotels, eating and generally spending money around Susan's town has gone up markedly, according to Scottish papers.

For a while, attention was focused on Britain by Americans who sadly often don't care what's happening "across the pond."

It's too bad many of the British people are so focused on bitterness and negativity that they can't see the numerous positive benefits of the "Susan Boyle Phenomenon," as we call it here in the States.

Coincidentally, I then saw this comment on an Irish news website. The last few sentences say a lot about the impression being left by the attack on Susan:

I am very much hoping for a Christmas album, and would even more like a DVD. I love watching SuBo sing...enjoy her personality and expression. I'd be thrilled if there were a duet with sax Julian, and one with Andrea Bocelli (a duet of Ave Maria would give me chills). I think she and Bette Midler would be great together. Wish this could be a concert video with CD of it available. Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire, Panis Angelicus, I'll Be Home For Christmas, somethings from her country. Fellow commenters, I suggest we the ridiculous, they're playing you and taking up space to get their 15 secs of fame on Ms. Boyle's coattails. She spent years of her life putting others first, and herself second. She took care of her ailing parents until their deaths. She volunteered at her church, helped with elderly people and sang in her choir.

We, her US fans, have been keeping a close eye on all of Susan's tour performances. She has been a powerhouse, singing to cheering crowds and standing ovations. We haven't missed a beat. Susan's fans in the US have become more like a big family. We're constantly chatting online, watching all her tour videos, and reading all the news on her. We've even had fans visit Scotland. She is very much in our minds and hearts. She is not that easily forgotten. We are anxiously awaiting her CD and visit to the States. We;ll take anything that has Susan performing.

Hearing Susan sing is an overwhelmingly beautiful experience,---but WATCHING her sing puts the icing on the cake! She's such a thorough delight!! CDs, for sure----but DVDs, too, PLEASE!

I, like many others, am also on Amazon's list to be notified when Susan's CD is available. I will buy every CD of hers that comes out, including extra copies for family. I would absolutely LOVE to have DVD's of her performances, as well. Susan is a pleasure to watch in her performances! They add depth to her singing! A DVD of her life story? I would love to have one, but as others have said, I think it would be more interesting in a few years after she has had some experience with her career, which could be added to the movie. In addition, I think Susan is overwhelmed with enough at this point and I wouldn't want to see her overwhelmed with one more thing, as far as having to recount the details of her life. And I am hoping that she will be intimately involved in the making of this movie so it will be accurate!! I also think she should benefit greatly from the movie financially, and not just those who are involved in making the movie! Thank you for a very positive article about Susan! ?

I would absolutely buy anything Susan records. I hope her CD is released in the states, and would love a DVD as well at some point. Watching Susan perform is mesmerizing. Whatever she decides to do is fine with me - I love her.

I would love to see a DVD of a concert or recording session. Not so interested in a life story..leave the woman some privacy...and those "life stories" distort for the sake of drama.

I will purchase any form of media that comes out from Susan. I'd feel much more comfortable if this information was coming from the people that legally/objectively represent Susan. I'm completely uncomfortable with any info regarding Gerry Boyle's business ventures. What's that got to do with anything? There's been an enormous amount of false information from her brothers, i.e., she's been invited to the White House to sing for the 4th of July. Nope, a completely false rumor. Please, when will Susan's reps come up with a Susan Boyle website which will provide accurate PR from reliable sources that speak for the star? Oh, and don't forget Gerry's thoughts about how Susan is going to be making all of this money in America and giving it to her family. Did she say this? Hello? I want a Susan website with accurate information. That's what is needed. Please, nae more cr*p!

I am so happy and thrilled for Susan. Gerry was right when he talked about the excitement here in the USA for her! CD, DVD, whatever... I will buy it. I admit to having been a "tour chaser" googling around all over the Internet to follow her progress. Way to go, Susan... you made your fans proud of you! Susan not only sings like an angel, she has such a special glow that is contagious. Here's hoping she will tour America before long -- but I pray she gets well rested first because when/if she arrives on OUR shores, the welcome is going to be tremendous!! And I will be a part of it! :)

One more comment... it is amazing how many people I hear say Susan "lost." Well first off... winning second place in a competition such as this is hardly losing. :) Secondly, why was ONE person expected to compete against TWELVE (or so) anyway... LOL how fair is THAT? :) And thirdly, while people in Britain may care whether or not she won BGT, those of us here in the USA could care less! Trust me, if we could have voted, she would have won by a landslide, even with the cost of an international phone call. As someone said above I too would buy it if she sang the phonebook! :) Here in America, there are internet sites all over the place where we are signing up to be notified the minute the CD is available. I am on them and hoping there will be enough of them to go around because I want several!! So Susan... you said you wanted to perform in front of a large audience... so here we are! All over the world, and especially here in the USA! Come on over!! We love you and can't WAIT for your appearance. Your presence would be an honor.

Good idea, I can go see her live in concerts all the time. And it will be handy for Susan to tour in Canada. They love her too.
