A Moray-based charity is in the running for £90k award for low-carbon lifestyle scheme.
A Moray charity working towards developing greater use of renewable energy is celebrating after being named in a final shortlist to receive Postcode Lottery funding.
REAP Scotland is part of a partnership with three other organisations who have joined to create a new low-carbon lifestyle programme for young adults throughout the country.
The ‘Element’ programme sees the Moray-based charity working alongside Young Scot, Greener Kirkcaldy and Transition Linlithgow. The partnership has been named as a finalist for a share of a £300,000 prize.
Louise Macdonald, Chief Executive of Young Scot, said: “As a partnership, REAP Scotland, Transition Linlithgow, Greener Kirkcaldy and Young Scot are delighted to have made it through to the final of the People’s Postcode Lottery Dream Fund.
“Climate change is one of the biggest issues facing our society and we believe Scotland’s young people have the potential to make the difference.
“Our dream is that they will lead the way in Scotland’s successful transition to a low carbon society.”
The Dream Fund was launched in 2011 introducing a new way of providing funding throughout Scotland, seeking to encourage charities and organisations to work together for the first time in delivering large-scale ‘dream’ projects.
Funding is supported entirely by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Eight projects have made the shortlist and the partnership has applied for over £90,000 to make their Element youth project a reality.
Winners will be announced on January 31 at the Lottery’s annual Charity Gala to be held at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh.
