Packed weekend of action, weather permitting, as thejuniors.info previews the games ahead

The five day forecast suggests there will be further rain on Saturday but then again, they said it would be sunny last Saturday!

Well I suppose it was during the brief intervals between the hailstones and heavy rain, accompanied by the occasional hurricane. Anyway, I think we can safely say, there will be games called off again next weekend.

Irvine Meadow v Auchinleck Talbot
Beith v Petershill
Ashfield v Kirkintilloch Rob Roy
Arthurlie v Clydebank

We start as always in the Premier League and this week there are two fantastic games which are sure to bring out the crowds. Firstly at Bellsdale Park, second placed Beith welcome the league leaders Petershill, for what is guaranteed to be superb match.

Peasy have won their last three away matches and have lost only one of their last nine outings, which was against Clydebank on Saturday.

Beith on the other hand, have been victorious in their last four home matches, including a 2-1 win over Rob Roy at the weekend. They have hit the net 58 times between them, whilst on league duty, so it’s all adding up to be match of the day.

However, Meadow Park affords us a serious contender for that accolade as Irvine lay down the gauntlet to their great rivals Auchinleck. Not including cup action, the Talbot haven’t hit the net in their last two away matches and Meadow have lost and drawn their last two at home.

We all recall Petershill’s great defeat of the Meadow XI not so long ago, so they are beatable and Talbot are more than capable of doing just that. I fancy this one to be a draw, if Talbot can overcome their curse of the Medda.

Ardrossan Winton Rovers v Rutherglen Glencairn
Cumbernauld United v Shotts Bon Accord
Dalry Thistle v Renfrew
Glenafton Athletic v East Kilbride Thistle
Kilsyth Rangers v Thorniewood United
Lanark United v Hurlford United

In the First Division we have a very busy fixture card. I like the look of Kilsyth v Thorniewood and Glenafton v East Kilbride, both of which should be very entertaining offerings. However, John Darroch will be hoping he can guide his new club Ardrossan back to winning ways after losing to Hurlford recently.

Standing in Winton’s way are strugglers Rutherglen, whose only victories this season have come on the road at Shotts and Cumbernauld. The Glens’ know this can’t continue, so I would expect the home side to have a tough old time of it.

Another off-form side are Lanark United who welcome Hurlford to Moor Park, who themselves have not been setting the woods on fire, so to speak. However, they had a fine win over Winton Rovers last time out and may arrive with a bit more belief in themselves this week.

United will still be smarting from that 4-0 defeat at home to Kinnoull in the Emirates Cup - wounded animals springs to mind, so again a good game could be on the cards here.

Ardeer Thistle v Annbank United
Craigmark Burntonians v Muirkirk
Kello Rovers v Maybole
Lugar Bowell Thistle v Kilwinning Rangers

The big question for me in the Ayrshire District League is where has Jonny Baillie gone?

No seriously – I am curious to see if Ardeer can make it four in a row as they host Annbank. The Bankies had a very good away victory at Saltcoats last weekend and travel to neighbours Ardeer looking for a similar outcome.

I think the match of the day is between Kello and Maybole. Rovers are a formidable force at home and in fact are unbeaten. They also know that if they can beat Maybole and win their three games in hand, they would overtake the current league leaders on points.

Cambuslang Rangers v St Anthony’s
Dunipace v Vale of Leven
Glasgow Perthshire v Greenock
Neilston v Benburb
Shettleston v Yoker Athletic
Vale of Clyde v Port Glasgow

A look at the Central League First Division now, where Glasgow Perthshire welcome Greenock in a first versus third match. Despite their close proximity in the table, there is a whopping 18 points between them and the ‘Shire will start as firm favourites, still unbeaten this season on league duty.

Cambuslang must get their act together soon if they are to climb out of the danger area. Rangers have not won in their last six league outings and face a side that can certainly play football, in the form of St Anthonys.

The Ants have only lost one of their last seven, so the stats point to an away victory. I am baffled at the Langs’ league position for they looked a capable side when I watched against Vale of Leven earlier in the season.

Neilston take on Benburb as the visitors to Brig O’ Lea this weekend. Neilston don’t have a great home record and Benburb’s away form is nothing to write home about, so it all points to this one being a draw.

Blantyre Victoria v Johnstone Burgh
Forth Wanderers v St Roch’s
Maryhill v Royal Albert
Rossvale v Newmains United
Wishaw v Lesmahagow

The Second Division‘s match of the day could be at Castle Park, Blantyre where they await the arrival of Johnstone Burgh unless the weather interrupts the calendar again.

Poor Burgh have managed only six games so far having hit two’s for their won, drawn and lost stats. Blantyre have had a topsy-turvy season, but can be a difficult team to beat on their day. Of course they had that fine victory against Carluke last week, albeit in exceptional circumstances.

Forth will be out to burst St Rochs’ bubble after their fine Juniors Cup victory at Girvan but the Candy Rocks will be on a high and this is the one I would say holds the most promise for match of the day.
