Short courses and continuing education for adults of all ages

Aberdeenshire Council’s Community Learning and Development (CLD) services work with and support communities in the area, helping to increase their skills, confidence, networks, resources and opportunities available to them.

Adult Learning

The Council offers adult learning opportunities throughout Aberdeenshire. There are a range of classes available: art, computer, family history, language and yoga. Most courses are based at your local Community Centre. There are 17 main Community Centres in Aberdeenshire, with each centre linked to a Community School Network. For a list of community centres, visit the Aberdeenshire Council website.

Stonehaven Community Centre is Stonehaven’s adult learning hub. For a programme of events and courses offered, visit the Council website. Details of Aberdeenshire’s Community and Lifelong part-time course guide are also available here.

You can also contact the Community Learning and Development team on cld@aberdeenshire.gov.uk or by visiting Stonehaven Community Centre.

ILA Scotland

ILA Scotland is a Scottish Government scheme that helps you pay for learning that you can do at a time, place, pace and in a way to suit you. It’s for people who have an income of £22,000 a year or less, or who are on benefits.

If you are 16 or over and living in Scotland, you could get £200 towards the cost of learning with a learner account from ILA Scotland.

If you are interested in learning something new or brushing up your skills, or are simply interested in seeing what courses are available near you, visit the ILA Scotland website, or you can call their advisers on 0808 100 1090.
