New exhibition of abstract art

South Aberdeenshire Abstracts art work is on show at Montrose Library during March.

Spring into colour is the title of the latest art exhibition by South Aberdeenshire Abstracts, which will display the diverse range of it’s artists’ work.

Members of SABAB – the up and coming South Aberdeenshire Abstract artists’ collective – will be exhibiting their diverse range of abstract and semi-abstract work for sale from Monday 7th March until Friday 1st April.

The display is expected to be bigger and even better this time, after snow and ice thwarted plans for a Christmas show.

All eleven members of the group are accomplished artists who sell their work at various outlets both individually and jointly.

“As a group we are frequently discussing the abstract genre,” said Jacky Niven, chairperson, “and SABAB’s development is certainly an interest to our audience.”

Live music, free drinks and nibbles will be offered at a special event on Saturday 12th March, 1pm – 3pm when all the artists hope to be there to meet and greet.

“Sales of artwork will be handled by the library staff,” said Angela Arnold, group secretary, “but we have a rota to ensure some of us are there to chat to visitors every Saturday afternoon.”

The artists include Jacky Niven, Kate MacKenzie, Angela Arnold, Pam Hamilton, Bern Ross, Gay Halley, Pauline Newman, Gregor Phillips, Janice Headrick and Michi Clark.

The group’s last exhibition, in Catterline during NEOS (North East Open Studios), attracted nearly 500 visitors during its 9 days, and really encouraging sales.

Jacky Niven added: “After the positive comments left in the visitors’ book, enthusing about their enjoyment of the exhibition and the artworks on display, we are thrilled to be showing our work further south.”

Montrose Library is open from 10am Monday to Saturday; until 5pm Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, 8pm on Monday and Wednesday, and 6pm on Thursdays. Admission is free.
