The first Stonehaven Dolphin Research Trust land watch held in conjunction with RSPB and nature lovers from the local area has proved a great success.
A special community event has been hailed a great success as members of the public joined with Stonehaven Dolphin Research team for a unique wildlife watch.
The event at Fowlsheugh RSPB Reserve on Sunday saw members of the local community take full advantage of the glorious weather to help sight and log the abundant marine wildlife that lives in and around Stonehaven’s coastal waters.
There were two representatives from both the RSPB and Dolphin Research on hand to advise the public and answer any questions.
Ian Sim, founder of Stonehaven Dolphin Research Trust, said: “Between the RSPB’s Victoria Anderson, her colleagues and myself, we had a very successful day - there was great communication with the public.
“I thank the RSPB for their support with this project. We worked well together and long may we have a good partnership for future projects.
“It was a really good day. We had sightings of puffins, guillemots, razor bills, kittiwakes, fulmars and a sighting of a peregrine falcon.
"We also saw seals and two groups of bottlenose dolphins - a group of five and another group of six in the area at the same time.
“We had an excellent turnout from the local public who came from the communities of Banchory, Aberdeen, Johnshaven, as well as Stonehaven, and a great day was had by all.”
RSPB representative Vicky Anderson thanked the Stonehaven Dolphin Research Trust for their invitation and echoed Ian’s sentiments.
Vicky said: "It was a great day, helped by the wonderful weather.
"It was good to speak to so many local people.”
If you missed this latest opportunity to join in the land based watch, don’t worry you can take part in the next event scheduled for Sunday, May 8, from 12 noon until 4pm at Fowlsheugh RSPB Reserve.
